At the FIVB Swatch Women’s beach Volleyabll World Tour Berlin Open Brazilian beach volleyball players Maria Antonelli and her partner Vanilda Leao eliminated their compatriots, the Salgado sisters 21-18 and 21-14 in the Brazilian Country Quota playoffs, then Antonelli and her partner eliminated USA Volleyball’s Tyra Turner and Rachel Wacholder 21-17, 16-21 and 15-13 in a 56-minute qualifying match Tuesday afternoon on the centre court at the smart Grand Slam. It was Antonelli and Leao first-ever match against a team from the United States in FIVB competition.

Team USA Volleyball rallied to defeat Japan in five sets on July 10 on the second day of round-robin action in the FIVB World Grand Prix Final Round staged in Yokohama, Japan.
